Troy, Matt and Sootch may just be my favorite characters in Over. In earlier drafts of the script, I had some reviewers question the role these boys play in the story, and whether or not they belong. Without giving too much away, I felt these kids were necessary to establish Felix’s current status quo, and to provide some comic relief.
I think too often in film and TV, kids don’t act as kids. I was determined to try to make these kids sound like believeable pre-teens. Having taught elementary school a few years ago, and recently taught a Creating Comics! class for middle schoolers, I hope I’m in the ball park.
Give the boys a shot. I think you’ll like them.
