Celebrity Splits: Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson
July 21st, 2009 |
A few disclaimers:
First, I am a Dallas Cowboys fan. (Let’s keep the hate to a minimum. You want to flame, blame my dad for bribing me with dollars every time they won back in the 90′s. He’s not on the internet. He won’t hear your jeers.)
Second, I’m a Tony Romo fan. Despite some awful playoff performances, Romo brought much needed stability to the Dallas QB position…first to really do so since Troy Aikman. And the guy is flat out fun to watch on the football field.
Third, Jessica Simpson never really did it for me. The dumb blond thing…nope, not for me. (Smart blond, hell yes. Sign me up.) In fact, were I in Tony’s shoes, I would have gone for Carrie Underwood (who he was initially attached with.) Carrie, also a sweetheart and a looker, had more talent and less baggage than Jess. Would have been my pick, Tony. Not that I’m knocking you. After all, Jessica’s boobs are a national treasure.
Still, this relationship just seemed too canned to ever really work. Like your stereotypical high school quarterback dating the head cheerleader, having the QB for the Dallas Cowboys date arguably the biggest female celebrity from Texas seems great for a few month’s worth of US Weekly “articles” but not much else.
Now sure, I can see why each got into it. I’m sure Jess was still smarting from her break-up with Nick. What with pictures of him getting it on in the hot-tub with his lady of the moment all over the ‘net, what better way to get back at him than start dating an NFL player? And for Tony, come on, this guy basically went from a third stringer to having the keys to the universe overnight. What would you do if suddenly you were the biggest star on the biggest football team in the National Football League? Can’t say for sure, but it’s a pretty good guess that Jessica Simpson’s breasts would be involved.
What broke them up? Who knows. Maybe Tony just wants to focus on football. (I hope that’s it, considering the Cowboys haven’t won a playoff game since I was in high school.) Maybe Jess wanted more than the 29 year old QB was ready to commit to. Regardless, I think they’ll both be okay. And though it pains me to say it, I’m confident Jess will be dating another celeb before the Cowboys win a post-season game.
Saving...
