EXT. STREET – moments later
Felix storms by Jinx.
JINX
Spare some change, buddy?
FELIX
I gave you my last dollar an hour
ago!
JINX
Oh, I’m sorry.
(mutters)
Like I don’t hear that last dollar
line twenty times a day.
Felix grabs his dollar back from Jinx’s jar.
A sweet-looking OLD LADY exits a shop, disgusted to see Felix
take money from Jinx and walk away.
JINX
Oh, you a real tough guy, stealing
money from a cripple. I’d put my
boot up your ass if I hadn’t left
it on the killin’ fields of Saigon,
fighting for my country!
The Old Lady shakes her head and empties her coin purse into
Jinx’s jar.
FELIX
You weren’t in ‘Nam! The whole
town knows you passed out drunk in
Ellory’s field and Chuck drove over
your legs with his tractor!
Jinx ignores Felix.
JINX
Thank you, Ma’am. Young people
these days.
OLD LADY
They’re all cunts.
EXT. FELIX’S NEIGHBORHOOD – NIGHT
The boys toss the ball as the streetlights come on. Matt and
Troy do so gracefully, Sootch, not so much.
SOOTCH
But there are two hundred other
kids in school. Why does Mulch
always pick on me?
MATT
I think it’s ’cause you’re little.
TROY
It’s probably because you’re Asian.
SOOTCH
You think?
MATT
Yeah, it’s ’cause you’re little and
you’re Asian.
Troy catches a pass, tosses it to Sootch. He drops a perfect
pass, and goes to retrieve it.
SOOTCH
Then why doesn’t he bully Li Wan?
He’s smaller than I am. And way
more Asian.
MATT
That’s an easy one. Li Wan has a
Wii.
Sootch picks up the ball. Matt doesn’t want his pass.
MATT
Throw it to Troy.
Sootch throws an awful pass way over Troy’s head.
TROY
Sootch, you suck!
The ball hits Felix’s car, setting off the CAR ALARM again,
then bounces down the street, stopping at Felix’s foot.
TROY
Oh, man.
SOOTCH
Sorry, Felix.
Felix picks up the ball, and punts it, an awful shank that
goes over a neighbor’s fence. The ball lands a few feet away
from BRUTUS, a mean dog on a chain.
TROY
Oh, man!
MATT
(fearful)
Brutus.
Felix deactivates the alarm and heads toward his house.
