There’s a moment when you know there’s no fixing a broken relationship. Capturing that was the goal of this sequence. Here’s a song that does a hell of a job capturing it, as well.
Wow. That’s pretty cold to turn down a perfectly good roll in the hay. And it’s not like he did anything wrong! I’m thinking Faith is a much bigger witch than our protagonist gives her credit for.
Seriously? Who turns down sex when you’re already naked?
Dealing with flashbacks is always tricky. (Most books on writing advise to avoid unless absolutely necessary.) I paid careful attention to how each of the flashbacks ended. The first flashback, the ring scene, showed the initial cracks in the foundation of their relationship, but ended with Faith kissing Felix and meaning it.
The second dealt with Felix trying to talk her out of her feelings that things weren’t working, and ended with her kissing him more out of sympathy than passion.
The third is basically Felix pulling out all the stops, going into super boyfriend mode, and ends with Faith simply unable to play along anymore.
And the tears as she realizes that and realizes what it means are a nice touch. She knows how she feels and she may not be happy about it but she at least is not kidding herself.
