I don’t do a ton of book or product reviews on this site.  (Too busy trying to keep all of my many plates spinning,  I suppose.)

But when something comes along that I’m willing to go to the mat for…something that I’m SUPREMELY confident a ton of people are going to love once they check it out…something that EVERYONE will be talking about sooner or later…

Well, I’d be remiss if I didn’t share it with you guys.

The Stuff of Legend.

Buy it. Don’t hem and haw, don’t think twice, just click that little link right there and purchase this book.  You’ll thank me later.

This book is excellent from top to bottom.  I strongly believe it has the potential to become a new American classic, and if you haven’t heard about it yet, just wait a few years, when it’s a Hollywood blockbuster that’s loved by millions.

The Stuff of Legend is a graphic novel that starts in 1940′s Brooklyn, but quickly moves to a fantastic realm called “The Dark” as a young boy is pulled into his closet (and “The Dark”) by the Boogeyman, and his toys come alive and band together with the boy’s puppy and enter The Dark to save him.

The simplest of premises, but handled exceptionally well.  When the toys enter the dark, they are transformed…the teddy bear becomes a might grizzly, the piggy bank a real pig, and the army man a soldier who can finally access the contents that were in the lead pack he’s always carried on his back.  The pencils by Charles Wilson III are immaculate, and the story by Mike Raicht and Brain Smith is sensational.  The characterization is subtle but extremely clever, from the resentment the teddy bear feels towards the puppy, who he fears has replaced his position as the boy’s best friend, to the questionable allegiance of the piggy bank, who is aware what fate awaits him once the boy has filled him up with coins.

There are twists and turns and delightful surprises all throughout this book, and I feel it’s only scratched the surface of its potential.  The Book 1 collection is available now, and I’m anxiously awaiting the next collection.

Seriously, buy it. In fact, I recommend you buy 10 copies, and give one to every kid you know.

This is a special book.  New American classic type special.  It’s production value is top notch, and there’s nothing else on the market quite like it.

I was lucky enough to meet the illustrator Charles Wilson III and the publisher Mike Devito at Larry’s Comics Free Comic Book Day event last weekend.  Great guys and great talents.  How awesome is this cover sketch done by Charles?

And yes, that’s The Boogeyman boys and girls.

Buy the book now and thank me later.
