Hey guys, now that Chapter 3 is complete, it’s time for a little contest!  Jinx returns in the beginning of Chapter 4.  In honor of that, I’m running a “Write Jinx’s Sign” Contest.

Eagled eyed “Over” readers have noticed that every time Jinx shows up, he’s got something different written on his sign.  While writing this book, I had a blast coming up with the things on his sign…the more outrageous, the better.

Now, I’m inviting you to take a crack at it!  Here’s the deal:

- Submit your best Jinx sign. You can draw a picture of Jinx with the sign yourself, or grab this image of Jinx with a blank sign and write your own line in the blanks.  (Click the image for a full size version.)

- Alternatively, (if you don’t have the know-how to do the above) you can just submit your best lines and I’ll toss them on a Jinx sign for you.

There it is folks, the end of Chapter Three.

This Felix/ Faith confrontation scene is one of my favorites.  Sometimes the “truth” about why things didn’t work out doesn’t come out until way after the fact.  And when you’ve loved someone, “issues” can hang around for months and months.

Heavy stuff in the last few pages, I know.  Chapter Four is gonna put a smile on a lot of your faces, though.

Faith comes clean as to why she left.  Truth is, it’s not easy lovin’ on creative types, who can get lost in the worlds they create.  It’s not for everyone.  It wasn’t for Faith.

Felix almost walked away.

But he couldn’t.  Couldn’t resist the “Why him?” question.  Well, he’s going to get an answer.  Probably won’t be one he wants to hear.

It never is.

Heh.  Readers will remember that Blake was very interested in the pages of Felix‘s “Over” he saw earlier in the story.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the bars.

Yup, pretty much the last people Felix wanted to see right now, his ex-Faith and her new bf Blake.  Let’s see how this plays out.

Okay, so apologies for those of you who weren’t expecting THAT on Skate‘s sketchpad.

I have a friend who’s always talked about doing this as a pick up move at a bar.  To my knowledge, he hasn’t ever actually gone through with it.  If he ever does, I’m betting the reaction would be similar to that of the two girls shown here.

(Which is why I hope he tries it out sometime.)

This week, we’ll see the mischievous side of Skate.

You know, I almost didn’t do this comic.

After all, when your Average Joe thinks of a comic book, they don’t think of stories like Over.  This isn’t a story about super heroes or cartoon characters or incredible people in incredible situations.  For that reason, I knew it was going to be hard to pitch and difficult to market.

But one thing I was confident about was that this story would touch on themes that a whole lot of people can relate to.  We’ve ALL had relationships that didn’t turn out the way we would have liked.  We’ve all had our hearts broken one time or another (and most of us, sexy beasts that we are, have broken a heart or two ourselves as well.)  And we’ve all probably done or said some stupid things in the aftermath.  Looking back on them and laughing…well, that’s how we move on.

Special thanks to Over reader and funny man Frank Dipps for suggesting I borrow the “shaved one leg” gag from his stand-up routine.  I think it fit perfectly.
