Last week, I asked readers what they thought a friend of mine should do with some very expensive (and very hideous) earrings she’s been holding on to that were given as gifts from her ex-boyfriend.

A whopping 72% of you believe she is well within her rights to put those warlocks on the auction block and cash in on them.  (New shoes, perhaps?)

I spoke to my friend (who thoroughly enjoyed the poll, BTW) and she says she still plans on hanging on to them for a while, and would probably end up giving them away at some point.  (This option finished a distant second in the voting.)  But, she said she felt a ton better after seeing the results, because she was feeling guilty for even considering selling them.

My boyfriend and I broke up about five months ago.  When we were together, he gave me several pairs of very expensive earrings.  When we broke up, he made a big deal about wanting me to keep them, that the gifts he gave me were in fact gifts.  The thing is, the earrings are UGLY.  I’ll never wear them.  And even if I did, they’d just remind me of him.  So, they’ve just been sitting in my underwear drawer, and I’m starting to hate looking at them whenever I come across them.   What should I do with them?

From her question, I got the sense that she was questioning whether it was moral or ethical to sell them or give them away or what have you?  What do you guys think?  Chime in:

Time to come clean though, guys…that “Photogenic memory” line…I totally used that one once.  It didn’t result in me getting a number.  But I think it got a laugh and a kiss on the cheek.  Good ’nuff, in my book.  Feel free to borrow.

Worth noting, in the original draft of this script, this scene took place in a bar, and Felix came to Faith’s rescue as she was being hit on by a Don Johnson look alike.  There were a few good lines I liked in that version, but this just seems more appropriate for the themes in “Over.”  So, the would be suitor became an eccentric con-goer dressed as the King of the Sea.

(Seriously, I’m not crazy.  It all makes sense to me.)
